Find and replace
Find and replace changes text in one field across every row of the table. You see what will change before anything is written, and one Undo puts it all back.
Open find and replace
- Open the field header menu.
- Pick Find and replace….
It is available on Text, URL, Email, Phone, and Single select fields.
Replace text
- Type what to find and what to replace it with.
- Turn on any options you need.
- Click Preview. Appenda shows how many cells will change, how many would not fit the field's type, and a few examples.
- Click Replace.
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Regular expression | Treats Find as a pattern. Use $1 in Replace with to reuse a captured group |
| Ignore case | Matches Acme and ACME alike |
| Whole cell only | Replaces a cell only when the whole value matches, not a part of it |
| Only fill empty cells | Ignores Find and writes Replace with into empty cells only |
A replacement that would not fit the field is skipped. In an Email field,
replacing the @ would make the value invalid, so that cell keeps its value.
The preview counts these before you commit.
Undo
The change is one entry in Table history, for example "Find and replace". Undo restores every changed cell.
Examples
| Goal | Find | Replace with | Options |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fix a misspelled company | Acme Inc | Acme | Ignore case |
| Drop a tracking suffix | \?utm_.*$ | (empty) | Regular expression |
| Swap "Last, First" | ^(\w+), (\w+)$ | $2 $1 | Regular expression |
| Fill missing stages | (empty) | Lead | Only fill empty cells |

FAQs
Can I find and replace in a Number or Date field?
No. It works on text-shaped fields and single selects. To fix numbers stored as text, change the field type instead.
Does it change rows hidden by my filter?
Yes. Find and replace covers every row in the table, not only the rows in view. The preview count includes them.
What happens to a select when I replace a name?
The cell moves to the choice with the new name. A name that is not a choice yet does not fit, and the preview counts it.
